And Jonathan said to David, [By] Yahweh, God of Israel: surely I will sound out my father by about this time on the third day, look, if there is good toward David, shall I not then send to you, and disclose it to you?[fn]

on the third day. Literally: the third tomorrow, or tomorrow the third. In Hebrew this means the day after tomorrow: Today is day one. Tomorrow is day two. The day after tomorrow is day three. See also 1 Samuel 9:20, 20:19, and 30:13.
