In these lay a multitude of those who were sick, blind, lame, [and] withered.[fn]

CT is certain (Level A) that the last part of verse 3 and all of verse 4 are not part of the original text: waiting for the moving of the water. 4 for an angel of Yahweh went down at certain seasons into the pool, and troubled the water: whoever then first after the troubling of the waters stepped in was made whole, with whatever disease he was held.
