And when all the men of the tower of Shechem heard of it, they entered into the stronghold of the house of El-berith.[fn]

El-berith, another name for, or possibly changed from an original text of 'Baal-berith' which is at 8:33 and 9:4. Some versions of the Septuagint read Baal here instead of El (i.e. god). See also p. 31, Bibliotheca Sacra, Volume 108, Dallas Theological Seminary, 1951.
