Chapter 1

1:9 — brother who is lowly, this may just be a further description of the brother. It is not necessarily a certain type of brother who is considered low. This would then contrast the brother in verse 9 to the rich of verse 10.

1:11 — ventures, could also mean journeys, paths, or ways, perhaps in the sense of orbits or revolutions. Compare the sun rising in the first part of this verse and the context of verse 17.

Chapter 3

3:4 — the helmsman, literally, 'him who makes straight'. Compare to John 1:23.
