3:1 And in those days John the Baptist comes, preaching in the wilderness of Judea, — {R} ->[2:1-2]
Now it came to pass in the days of Herod, King of Judea, in the highpriesthood of Caiaphas, there came a certain man named John baptizing a baptism of repentance who was known as being from the kindred of Aaron the priest, son of Zacharias and Elizabeth.
3:2 and saying, Repent+; for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. — {Ou}
3:3 For this is he who was spoken of through Isaiah the prophet, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make+ ready the way of Yahweh, Make+ his paths straight. — {Os}
3:4 Now John himself had his raiment of camel's hair, and a leather belt about his loins; and his food was locusts and wild honey. — {Ru} ->[2:3]

3:5 Then Jerusalem, and all Judea, and all the region around the Jordan went out to him; — ->2:4
3:6 and they were baptized by him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins. — ->2:5
3:7 But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said to them, You+ offspring of vipers, who warned you+ to flee from the wrath to come? — {Oc}
3:8 Bring forth therefore fruit worthy of repentance: — {Oc}
3:9 and don't think to say to yourselves, We have Abraham for our father: for I say to you+, that God is able of these stones to raise up children to Abraham. — {Oc}
3:10 And even now the ax lies at the root of the trees: every tree therefore that does not bring forth good fruit is cut down, and cast into the fire. — {Oc}
3:11 I indeed baptize you+ in water to repentance: but he who comes after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to bear: he will baptize you+ in the Holy Spirit and [in] fire: — {Ru} ->[2:6]

3:12 whose fan is in his hand, and he will thoroughly cleanse his threshing-floor; and he will gather his wheat into the garner, but the chaff he will burn up with unquenchable fire. — ->2:7
3:13 Then Jesus comes from Galilee to the Jordan to John, to be baptized of him. — ->2:8
3:14 But John would have hindered him, saying, I have need to be baptized of you, and you come to me? — {Ous}
3:15 But Jesus answering said to him, Allow [it] now: for thus it becomes us to fulfill all righteousness. Then he allows him. — {Ous}
3:16 And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up immediately from the water: and look, the heavens were opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove, and coming upon him; — ->2:9
3:17 and look, a voice out of the heavens, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. — ->2:10
