5:1 And seeing the multitudes, he went up into the mountain: and when he had sat down, his disciples came to him: — {Ru} ->[6:1]
And it came to pass in these days, that he went out into the mountain to pray; and he continued all night in prayer to God.
5:2 and he opened his mouth and taught them, saying, — {Ru} ->[6:5]
5:3 Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. — {Ru} ->[6:6]
Blessed [are] you+ poor: for yours+ is the kingdom of God.
5:4 Blessed are those who mourn: for they will be comforted. — {Ru} ->[6:8]
Blessed [are] you+ who weep now: for you+ will laugh.
5:5 Blessed are the meek: for they will inherit the earth. — {Ou}
5:6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they will be filled. — {Ru} ->[6:7]
Blessed [are] you+ who hunger now: for you+ will be filled.
5:7 Blessed are the merciful: for they will obtain mercy. — {Ou}
5:8 Blessed are the pure in heart: for they will see God. — {Ou}
5:9 Blessed are the peacemakers: for they will be called sons of God. — {Ou}
5:10 Blessed are those who have been persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. — {Ou}
5:11 Blessed are you+ when [men] will reproach you+, and persecute you+, and say all manner of evil against you+ falsely, for my sake. — {Ru} ->[6:9]
Blessed are you+, when men will hate you+, and when they will separate you+ [from their company], and reproach you+, and cast out your+ name as evil, for the Son of Man's sake.
5:12 Rejoice, and be exceedingly glad: for great is your+ reward in heaven: for they so persecuted the prophets who were before you+. — {Ru} ->[6:10]
Rejoice in that day, and leap [for joy]: for look, your+ reward is great in heaven; for in the same manner their fathers did to the prophets.
5:13 You+ are the salt of the earth: but if the salt has lost its savor, how will it be salted? It is from then on good for nothing, but to be cast out and trodden under foot of men. — {Ru} ->[18:10]
Salt therefore is good: but if the salt has lost its savor, how will it be salted? It is from then on good for nothing, but to be cast out and trodden under foot of men.
5:14 You+ are the light of the world. A city set on a hill can't be hid. — {Ru} ->[15:40]
A city set on a hill can't be hid.
5:15 Neither do [men] light a lamp, and put it under the bushel, but on the lampstand; and it shines to all who are in the house. — ->15:41
5:16 Even so let your+ light shine before men; that they may see your+ good works, and glorify your+ Father who is in heaven. — {Ous}
5:17 Don't think that I came to destroy the law or the prophets: I didn't come to destroy, but to fulfill. — {Ouc}
5:18 For truly I say to you+, Until heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will in no way pass away from the law, until all things be accomplished. — {Ouc}
5:19 Whoever therefore will break one of these least commandments, and will teach men so, will be called least in the kingdom of heaven: but whoever will do and teach them, he will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. — {Ouc}
5:20 For I say to you+, that except your+ righteousness will exceed [the righteousness] of the scribes and Pharisees, you+ will in no way enter into the kingdom of heaven. — {Ouc}
5:21 You+ have heard that it was said to them of old time, You will not kill; and whoever will kill will be in danger of the judgment: — {Ou}
5:22 but I say to you+, that everyone who is angry with his brother will be in danger of the judgment; and whoever will say to his brother, Raca, will be in danger of the Sanhedrin; and whoever will say, You fool, will be in danger of the hell of fire. — {Ou}
5:23 If therefore you are offering your gift at the altar, and there remember that your brother has anything against you, — {Ou}
5:24 leave your gift there before the altar, and go your way, first be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift. — {Ou}
5:25 Agree with your adversary quickly, while you are with him in the way; lest perhaps the adversary deliver you to the judge, and the judge [deliver you] to the attendant, and you are cast into prison. — {Oc}
5:26 Truly I say to you, You will by no means come out from there, until you have paid the last farthing. — {Oc}
5:27 You+ have heard that it was said, You will not commit adultery: — {Oc}
5:28 but I say to you+, that everyone who looks on a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart. — {Oc}
5:29 And if your right eye causes you to stumble, pluck it out, and cast it from you: for it is profitable for you that one of your members should perish, and not your whole body be cast into hell. — {Oc}
5:30 And if your right hand causes you to stumble, cut it off, and cast it from you: for it is profitable for you that one of your members should perish, and not your whole body go into hell. — {Oc}
5:31 It was said also, Whoever divorces his wife, let him give her a writing of divorce: — {Oc}
5:32 but I say to you+, that everyone who divorces his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, makes her commit adultery: and whoever marries her who has been divorced commits adultery. — {Oc}
5:33 Again, you+ have heard that it was said to them of old time, You will not forswear yourself, but will perform to the Lord your oaths: — {Ou}
5:34 but I say to you+, Don't swear at all; neither by the heaven, for it is the throne of God; — {Ou}
5:35 nor by the earth, for it is the footstool of his feet; nor by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King. — {Ou}
5:36 Neither will you swear by your head, for you can't make one hair white or black. — {Ou}
5:37 But let your+ speech be, Yes, yes; No, no: and whatever is more than these is of the evil [one]. — {Ou}
5:38 You+ have heard that it was said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth: — {Ou}
5:39 but I say to you+, Don't resist him who is evil: but whoever strikes you on your right cheek, turn to him the other also. — {Ru} ->[6:18]
To him who strikes you on the [one] cheek offer also the other;
5:40 And if any man would go to law with you, and take away your coat, let him have your cloak also. — {Ru} ->[6:19]
and from him who takes away your cloak don't withhold your coat also.
5:41 And whoever will compel you to go one mile, go with him two. — {Ou}
5:42 Give to him who asks you, and from him who would borrow of you don't turn away. — {Ru} ->[6:20]
Give to everyone who asks you; and of him who takes away your goods don't ask [for them] back.
5:43 You+ have heard that it was said, You will love your fellow man, and hate your enemy: — {Ou}
5:44 but I say to you+, Love your+ enemies, and pray for those who persecute you+; — {Ru} ->[6:25]
But love your+ enemies, and do [them] good, and lend, never despairing; and your+ reward will be great, and you+ will be sons of the Most High: for he is kind toward the unthankful and evil.
5:45 that you+ may be sons of your+ Father who is in heaven: for he makes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the just and the unjust. — {Ru} ->[6:25]
But love your+ enemies, and do [them] good, and lend, never despairing; and your+ reward will be great, and you+ will be sons of the Most High: for he is kind toward the unthankful and evil.
5:46 For if you+ love those who love you+, what reward do you+ have? Don't even the publicans do the same? — {Ru} ->[6:22]
And if you+ love those who love you+, what thanks do you+ have? For even sinners love those who love them.
5:47 And if you+ greet your+ brothers only, what do you+ do more [than others]? Don't even the Gentiles do the same? — {Ru} ->[6:23]
For even if you+ do good to those who do good to you+, what thanks do you+ have? Even sinners do the same.
5:48 You+ therefore will be perfect, as your+ heavenly Father is perfect. — {Ru} ->[6:26]
Be+ merciful, even as your+ Father is merciful.
