Matthew Text Comparison — Chapter 7

Comparison of old Matthew chapter 7 with the current UPDV version. For status codes and methodology, see the Matthew Reference.

7:1 Do not judge, that you+ are not judged.{Rn} ->[6:27]

And do not judge, and you+ will not be judged: and do not condemn, and you+ will not be condemned: release, and you+ will be released:

7:2 For with what judgment you+ judge, you+ will be judged: and with what measure you+ mete, it will be measured to you+. — {Ruc} ->[6:28]

give, and it will be given to you+; good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, they will give into your+ bosom. For with what measure you+ mete it will be measured to you+ again.

7:3 And why do you look at the mote that is in your brother's eye, but don't consider the beam that is in your own eye?{Oc}

7:4 Or how will you say to your brother, Let me cast out the mote out of your eye; and look, the beam is in your own eye?{Oc}

7:5 You hypocrite, cast out first the beam out of your own eye; and then you will see clearly to cast out the mote out of your brother's eye.{Oc}

7:6 Don't give that which is holy to the dogs, neither cast your+ pearls before the swine, lest perhaps they trample them under their feet, and turn and rend you+.{Oc}

7:7 Ask, and it will be given to you+; seek, and you+ will find; knock, and it will be opened to you+: — {Ruc} ->14:33

And I say to you+, Ask, and it will be given to you+; seek, and you+ will find; knock, and it will be opened to you+:

7:8 for everyone who asks receives; and he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks it will be opened. — ->14:34

7:9 Or what man is there of you+, who, if his son will ask him for a loaf, will give him a stone; — ->14:35

7:10 or if he will ask for a fish, will give him a serpent? — ->14:36

7:11 If you+ then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your+ children, how much more will your+ Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him? — ->14:37

7:12 All things therefore whatever you+ would that men should do to you+, even so do you+ also to them: for this is the law and the prophets. — {Ruc} ->[6:21]

And as you+ would that men should do to you+, do+ to them likewise.

7:13 Enter+ in by the narrow gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leads to destruction, and many are those who enter in by it. — {Ruc} ->[17:2]

Strive to enter in by the narrow door: for many, I say to you+, will seek to enter in, and will not be able.

7:14 How narrow is the gate, and straitened the way, that leads to life, and few are those who find it.{Ouc}

7:15 Beware of false prophets, who come to you+ in sheep's clothing, but inwardly are ravening wolves.{Ouc}

7:16 By their fruits you+ will know them. Do [men] gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? — {Rc} ->[11:18]

A good tree is not able to produce evil fruit, neither is a corrupt tree [able] to produce good fruit: for the tree is known by its fruit. For men do not gather grapes of thorns, nor do they gather figs of thistles.

7:17 Even so every good tree produces good fruit; but the corrupt tree produces evil fruit.{Ouc}

7:18 A good tree is not able to produce evil fruit, neither is a corrupt tree [able] to produce good fruit. — ->11:18

7:19 Every tree not producing good fruit is cut down, and cast into the fire.{Oc}

7:20 Therefore by their fruits you+ will know them.{Ouc}

7:21 Not everyone who says to me, Lord, Lord, will enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. — ->17:6

7:22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy by your name, and by your name cast out demons, and by your name do many mighty works? — {Ruc} ->[17:4]

Then you+ will begin to say, We ate and drank in your presence, and you taught in our streets;

7:23 And then I will profess to them, I never knew you+: depart from me, you+ who work iniquity. — {Ruc} ->[17:5]

and he will speak, saying to you+, I don't know you+ or where you+ are from; depart from me, all you+ workers of iniquity.

7:24 Everyone therefore who hears these words of mine, and does them, will be likened to a wise man, who built his house on the rock: — ->17:7

7:25 and the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat on that house; and it did not fall: for it was founded on the rock. — ->17:8

7:26 And everyone who hears these words of mine, and does not do them, will be likened to a foolish man, who built his house on the sand: — ->17:9

7:27 and the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and struck against that house; and it fell: and great was its fall. — ->17:10

7:28 And it came to pass, when Jesus had finished these words, the multitudes were astonished at his teaching:{Rct} ->[4:7]

And they were astonished at his teaching: for he taught them as [one] having authority, and not as their scribes.

7:29 for he taught them as [one] having authority, and not as their scribes.{Rct} ->[4:7]

And they were astonished at his teaching: for he taught them as [one] having authority, and not as their scribes.
