23:1 Then Jesus spoke to the multitudes and to his disciples,{Ou}

23:2 saying, The scribes and the Pharisees sit on Moses' seat:{Ou}

23:3 all things therefore whatever they bid you+, [these] do and observe: but do+ not do after their works; for they say, and do not do.{Ou}

23:4 Yes, they bind loads that are heavy and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men's shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with their finger. — {Ru} ->[15:27]

And he said, Woe to you+ lawyers also! For you+ bind loads that are heavy and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men's shoulders; but you+ yourselves will not move them with one of your+ fingers.

23:5 But all their works they do to be seen of men: for they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders [of their garments],{Ou}

23:6 and love the chief place at feasts, and the chief seats in the synagogues, — {Ru} ->[15:24]

Woe to you+ Pharisees! For you+ love the chief seats in the synagogues, and the salutations in the marketplaces.

23:7 and the salutations in the marketplaces, and to be called of men, Rabbi. — {Ru} ->[15:24]

Woe to you+ Pharisees! For you+ love the chief seats in the synagogues, and the salutations in the marketplaces.

23:8 But don't be+ called Rabbi: for one is your+ teacher, and all you+ are brothers.{Ou}

23:9 And call no man your+ father on the earth: for one is your+ Father, [even] he who is in heaven.{Ou}

23:10 Neither be+ called masters: for one is your+ master, the Christ.{Ou}

23:11 But he who is greatest among you+ will be your+ servant. — {Ruc} ->[25:34]

But you+ [will] not [be] so: but he who is the greater among you+, let him become as the younger; and he who is chief, as he who serves.

23:12 And whoever will exalt himself will be humbled; and whoever will humble himself will be exalted. — {Ruc} ->[17:29]

For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled; and he who humbles himself will be exalted.

23:13 But woe to you+, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because you+ shut the kingdom of heaven against men: for you+ don't enter in yourselves, neither do you+ allow those who are entering in to enter.{Ou}

23:15 Woe to you+, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you+ circle sea and land to make one proselyte; and when he has become so, you+ make him twofold more a son of hell than yourselves.{Ou}

23:16 Woe to you+, you+ blind guides, who say, Whoever will swear by the temple, it is nothing; but whoever will swear by the gold of the temple, he is a debtor.{Ou}

23:17 You+ fools and blind men: for which is greater, the gold, or the temple that has sanctified the gold?{Ou}

23:18 And, Whoever will swear by the altar, it is nothing; but whoever will swear by the gift that is on it, he is a debtor.{Ou}

23:19 You+ blind men: for which is greater, the gift, or the altar that sanctifies the gift?{Ou}

23:20 He therefore who swears by the altar, swears by it, and by all things on it.{Ou}

23:21 And he who swears by the temple, swears by it, and by him who dwells in it.{Ou}

23:22 And he who swears by the heaven, swears by the throne of God, and by him who sits on it.{Ou}

23:23 Woe to you+, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you+ tithe mint and dill and cumin, and have left undone the weightier matters of the law, justice, and mercy, and faith: but these you+ ought to have done, and not to have left the other undone.{Ru} ->[15:23]

Woe to you+ Pharisees! For you+ tithe mint and dill and cumin, and have left undone the weightier matters of the law, justice, and mercy, and faith: but these you+ ought to have done, and not to have left the other undone.

23:24 You+ blind guides, that strain out the gnat, and swallow the camel!{Ou}

23:25 Woe to you+, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you+ cleanse the outside of the cup and of the platter, but inside they are full from extortion and lack of self-control.{Ru} ->[15:21]

And the Lord said to him, Now you+ Pharisees cleanse the outside of the cup and of the platter, but inside you+ are full from extortion and lack of self-control.

23:26 You blind Pharisee, cleanse first the inside of the cup, that its outside may become clean also. — ->15:22

23:27 Woe to you+, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you+ are like whited tombs, which outwardly appear beautiful, but inwardly are full of dead men's bones, and of all impurity.{Ru} ->[15:25]

Woe to you+! For you+ are as the tombs which do not appear, and the men who walk over [them] do not know it.

23:28 Even so you+ also outwardly appear righteous to men, but inwardly you+ are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.{Ou}

23:29 Woe to you+, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you+ build the tombs of the prophets, and garnish the tombs of the righteous,{Ru} ->[15:28]

Woe to you+! For you+ build the tombs of the prophets, and garnish the tombs of the righteous,

23:30 and say, If we had been in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partners with them in the blood of the prophets. — ->15:29

23:31 Therefore you+ witness to yourselves, that you+ are sons of those who slew the prophets. — ->15:30

23:32 You+ fill up then the measure of your+ fathers. — ->15:31

23:33 You+ serpents, you+ offspring of vipers, how will you+ escape the judgment of hell?{Ou}

23:34 Therefore, look, I send to you+ prophets, and wise men, and scribes: some of them you+ will kill and crucify; and some of them you+ will scourge in your+ synagogues, and persecute from city to city:{Ru} ->[15:32]

Therefore, look, I send to you+ prophets, and wise men, and scribes: some of them you+ will kill and persecute:

23:35 that on you+ may come all the righteous blood shed on the earth, from the blood of Abel the righteous to the blood of Zachariah son of Barachiah, whom you+ slew between the sanctuary and the altar.{Ru} ->[15:33]

that on you+ may come all the righteous blood shed on the earth, from the blood of Abel the righteous to the blood of Zachariah, who perished between the sanctuary and the altar.

23:36 Truly I say to you+, All these things will come upon this generation. — ->15:34

23:37 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, that kills the prophets, and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, even as a hen gathers her chickens under her wings, and you+ did not want [to]! — ->17:16

23:38 Look, your+ house is left to you+ desolate.{Ru} ->[17:17]

Look, your+ house is left to you+.

23:39 For I say to you+, You+ will not see me from now on, until you+ will say, Blessed [is] he who comes in the name of Yahweh. — ->17:18
