For if God did not spare angels who sinned, but cast them down to Tartarus, and delivered them to chains of darkness, to be reserved to judgment;[fn]

Tartarus is similar in meaning to 'hell', but thought by some to be a place of divine punishment inside the Earth that was below Hades.
