Ezekiel 20:39

39 As for you⁺, O house of Israel, thus says the Sovereign Yahweh: Go⁺, serve every one his idols, and hereafter also, if you⁺ will not listen to [my Speech]; but my holy name you⁺ will profane no more with your⁺ gifts, and with your⁺ idols.

Commentary

Adam Clarke
Verse 39 Go ye, serve ye every one his idols - Thus, God gave them statutes that were not good, and judgments whereby they could not live, by thus permitting them to take their own way, serve their gods, and follow the maxims and rites of that abominable worship.
John Wesley
He - The man whom he had seen upon the throne. Them - Those whom God hath appointed to destroy the city: perhaps angels. Every man - Every one; 'tis an Hebrew idiom. Each of these had a weapon proper for that kind of destruction which he was to effect; and so, some to slay with the sword, another with the pestilence, another with famine. In his hand - Denoting both expedition in, and strength for the work.
Pulpit Commentary
Eze 20:39

Go ye, serve every man his idols, etc. The command comes as with a grave irony. "Be at least consistent. Sin on, if it is your will to sin; but do not make the sin worse by the hypocrisy of an unreal worship, and mix up the name of Jehovah with the ritual of Moloch" (comp. Jos 24:19, Jos 24:20). The margin of the Revised Version, with not a few critics (Keil), gives, "but hereafter surely ye shall hearken unto me" ("if not" equivalent to "ye shall," as in the familiar idiom of Psa 95:11, where "if" is equivalent to "shall not"). So taken, the verse looks forward to what follows.
