And to Joseph in the land of Egypt were born Manasseh and Ephraim, whom Asenath, the daughter of Poti-phera priest of On, bore to him. And the sons of Manasseh: his Aramean concubine bore Machir. And Machir begot Gilead. And the sons of Manasseh's brother, Ephraim: Shuthelah and Tahan. And the sons of Shuthelah: Eran.[fn]

Genesis 46:20-22, 46:26-27, and Exodus 1:5 follow the LXX text and HOTTP's suggested readings: nineteen persons (MT: fourteen) and seventy-five souls (MT: seventy). HOTTP judges the MT's shorter forms the result of an early theological adjustment connected with Deut 32:8, and CTAT accepts the LXX plus at Gen 46:20 as original (see CTAT at 1 Chronicles 7:14).
