2:1 Now it came to pass in the days of Herod, King of Judea, in the highpriesthood of Caiaphas, there came a certain man named John baptizing a baptism of repentance
2:2 who was known as being from the kindred of Aaron the priest, son of Zacharias and Elizabeth.
2:3 And John had a garment of camel's hair, and a leather loincloth about his loins; and his food was locusts and wild honey.
2:4 Then Jerusalem, and all Judea, and all the region around the Jordan went out to him;
2:5 and they were baptized by him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins.
2:6 And he said, I indeed baptize you+ in water to repentance: but he who comes after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to bear: he will baptize you+ in the Holy Spirit and [in] fire:
2:7 whose fan is in his hand, and he will thoroughly cleanse his threshing-floor; and he will gather his wheat into the garner, but the chaff he will burn up with unquenchable fire.
2:8 Then Jesus comes from Galilee to the Jordan to John, to be baptized of him.
2:9 And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up immediately from the water: and look, the heavens were opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove, and coming upon him;
2:10 and look, a voice out of the heavens, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
