Adbeel

Adbeel is one of the twelve sons of Ishmael, listed among the tribal heads who descend from Abraham through Hagar. He appears only in the two parallel genealogies that catalogue Ishmael's line.

Son of Ishmael

The Genesis register names him in the third position among Ishmael's sons: "the firstborn of Ishmael, Nebaioth, and Kedar, and Adbeel, and Mibsam" (Gen 25:13). The Chronicler preserves the same order in the abbreviated list of Abraham's descendants by the concubines: "the firstborn of Ishmael, Nebaioth; then Kedar, and Adbeel, and Mibsam" (1Ch 1:29). Beyond the two name-lists nothing further is recorded of him; his place in the canon is purely as one of the twelve princes through whom Ishmael's line is reckoned.
