Adiel
Three men named Adiel appear in the Chronicler's records: a Simeonite, a priestly ancestor, and the father of David's overseer of the royal treasures.
A Simeonite
The first Adiel is named in the Simeonite list of clan-heads: "and Elioenai, and Jaakobah, and Jeshohaiah, and Asaiah, and Adiel, and Jesimiel, and Benaiah" (1Ch 4:36). The wider passage records the expansion of Simeon's clans before their search for new pasture.
A Priestly Ancestor
The second Adiel appears in the priestly genealogies returning to Jerusalem after the exile, as a link in the line of Maasai: "and Adaiah the son of Jeroham, the son of Pashhur, the son of Malchijah, and Maasai the son of Adiel, the son of Jahzerah, the son of Meshullam, the son of Meshillemith, the son of Immer" (1Ch 9:12).
Father of Azmaveth
The third Adiel is named only as the father of one of David's royal officers: "And over the king's treasures was Azmaveth the son of Adiel" (1Ch 27:25). The post — overseer of the king's treasures, distinct from the field, city, village, and stronghold treasuries — is a high office in David's administration, and Azmaveth's parentage is the only datum the record preserves about his father.
