Adoni-Bezek
Adoni-bezek was a Canaanite king defeated by the tribe of Judah at the outset of Israel's settlement of the land. When Yahweh delivered the Canaanites and the Perizzites into Judah's hand, ten thousand men fell at Bezek (Judg 1:4). Adoni-bezek was found there, fought, and fled, but was overtaken and captured (Judg 1:5-6).
Defeat and Mutilation
His captors cut off his thumbs and his great toes — the same treatment he had inflicted on seventy kings, who had gathered their food under his table (Judg 1:6-7). His own words acknowledged the justice of the act: "As I have done, so God has repaid me" (Judg 1:7). He was then brought to Jerusalem, where he died (Judg 1:7).
