Agur
Agur son of Jakeh is identified at the opening of Proverbs 30 as the author of an oracle addressed to Ithiel and Ucal: "The words of Agur the son of Jakeh; The oracle. The [noble] man says to Ithiel, to Ithiel and Ucal" (Prov 30:1).
The Oracle of Agur
Proverbs 30 opens by crediting its material to Agur, placing him in the tradition of wisdom writers whose words were gathered into the book. The verse names both his father (Jakeh) and his recipients (Ithiel and Ucal), situating the oracle as a direct address rather than a general collection.
