Ahoah

People · Updated 2026-05-06

Ahoah is named in UPDV among the sons of Bela in the Benjamite genealogy.

Son of Bela

In the Chronicler's list of Benjamin's descendants, Ahoah is named in the third position among Bela's sons: "and Abishua, and Naaman, and Ahoah" (1Ch 8:4). The verse continues a Benjamite line that fans out into the gatekeepers, warriors, and Saulide ancestry of the chapter.

Parallel and Variant Names

Two nearby verses are sometimes read as variant forms of the same name. Three verses on, the same Benjamite genealogy lists "Naaman, and Ahijah, and Gera" (1Ch 8:7) — Ahijah in the Bela line where Ahoah stood. And in the parallel list of Bela's sons one chapter back, the names are different again: "And the sons of Bela: Ezbon, and Uzzi, and Uzziel, and Jerimoth, and Iri, five; heads of fathers' houses, mighty men of valor; and they were reckoned by genealogy twenty and two thousand and thirty and four" (1Ch 7:7). The lists do not line up name for name, and UPDV preserves the divergences as written.
