Almodad

Almodad is named in the Table of Nations and again in the Chronicler's recapitulation of the same genealogies. He is the firstborn son of Joktan, in the line of Shem.

In the Table of Nations

The genealogy in Genesis lists Almodad first among Joktan's sons: "And Joktan begot Almodad, and Sheleph, and Hazarmaveth, and Jerah" (Ge 10:26). The line of Joktan, descended through Eber, branches out into thirteen sons of whom Almodad is the eldest.

The Chronicler's Parallel

The same listing reappears in the Chronicler's opening genealogy in identical form: "And Joktan begot Almodad, and Sheleph, and Hazarmaveth, and Jerah" (1Ch 1:20). The repetition preserves the same word-order and the same starting position for Almodad.
