Almon
Almon is a Levitical city in the territory of Benjamin, given over to the priests with its surrounding pasturelands. The Chronicler's parallel list preserves the same city under the name Allemeth, set in the same Anathoth grouping.
A Levitical City in Benjamin
The allotment of Levitical cities at the close of Joshua's distribution names Almon among the priestly holdings: "Anathoth with its suburbs, and Almon with its suburbs; four cities" (Jos 21:18). It is paired with Anathoth in the Benjamite group, each given with its surrounding suburbs to support the priestly families.
The Chronicler's Parallel: Allemeth
The Chronicler revisits the same allotment with the same context — Geba and Anathoth — but renders the city's name differently: "and out of the tribe of Benjamin, Geba with its suburbs, and Allemeth with its suburbs, and Anathoth with its suburbs. All their cities throughout their families were thirteen cities" (1Ch 6:60). The placement next to Anathoth and the priestly assignment fix the identity, while the name itself shifts from Almon to Allemeth.
