Anchor

The anchor appears in scripture as a figure for the steadfastness of hope.

Hope as the Anchor of the Soul

The image is used in Hebrews for the believer's hope: "which we have as an anchor of the soul; both sure and steadfast; and entering into that which is inside the veil" (Heb 6:19). Two qualities are paired — "sure" and "steadfast" — and the anchor itself is said to enter inside the veil.
