Andronicus

People · Updated 2026-05-07

Andronicus is greeted by Paul in the closing of the letter to the Romans as a figure of some distinction in early Christianity. The greeting names him alongside Junias and gives three characterizations: "Greet Andronicus and Junias, my kinsmen, and my fellow-prisoners, who are of note among the apostles, who also have been in Christ before me" (Ro 16:7). He is identified as Paul's kinsman, as someone who shared imprisonment with him, as one recognized among the apostles, and as a believer who came to faith in Christ prior to Paul's own conversion. No other references to Andronicus appear in the text.
