Aphiah
Aphiah is a Benjamite ancestor of Kish, the father of Saul. He appears in the genealogical introduction that establishes Saul's lineage at the opening of 1 Samuel 9.
Ancestor of Kish
The genealogy in 1 Samuel 9 traces the lineage of Kish back through several generations: "Now there was a man of Benjamin, whose name was Kish, the son of Abiel, the son of Zeror, the son of Becorath, the son of Aphiah, the son of a man [of] Benjamin, a mighty man of valor" (1Sa 9:1). Aphiah stands near the base of the chain, one step removed from the anonymous Benjamite described as a mighty man of valor. His name is preserved solely as a link in the genealogy that leads to Saul, Israel's first king.
