Apphia

Apphia appears as one of three named recipients of Paul's letter to Philemon. The greeting addresses "Philemon our beloved and coworker" (Phm 1:1), then continues: "and to Apphia our sister, and to Archippus our fellow-soldier, and to the church in your house" (Phm 1:2). The designation "our sister" marks her as a member of the Christian community; nothing further is stated about her role or relationship to Philemon. She is the only woman named in the letter's address.
