Arod

Arod was a son of Gad and the ancestor of the clan called the Arodites. He is named in the census of the tribes taken on the plains of Moab: "of Arod, the family of the Arodites; of Areli, the family of the Arelites" (Num 26:17).

Ancestor of the Arodites

The tribal census of Numbers 26 records the clans of Israel by their founding ancestors. Arod's descendants are counted as the Arodites, one of the clans of Gad. His name is preserved through that clan designation, which appears alongside the Arelites (descendants of Areli) as the final two clans listed under the tribe of Gad in this census.
