Arumah

Arumah was the place where Abimelech resided after Zebul drove Gaal and his brothers out of Shechem: "And Abimelech dwelt at Arumah: and Zebul drove out Gaal and his brothers, that they should not dwell in Shechem" (Judg 9:41).

Abimelech's Base near Shechem

The episode falls within the conflict between Abimelech and the lords of Shechem in Judges 9. After Gaal son of Ebed publicly challenged Abimelech's authority, Zebul — Abimelech's appointed ruler in Shechem — arranged for Abimelech to ambush Gaal. Following the skirmish, Zebul expelled Gaal and his associates from the city. The verse places Abimelech at Arumah during this period, positioning him outside Shechem proper while retaining control through Zebul within it.
