Ashur
Ashur — rendered Ashhur in the UPDV — is a son of Hezron in the genealogies of Judah, and the father of Tekoa. He appears only in the Chronicler's lists, twice.
Birth After Hezron's Death
The first notice attaches Ashhur's birth to the closing of Hezron's life: "And after Hezron died, Caleb went to Ephrathah. And Hezron's wife was Abijah. And she bore him Ashhur the father of Tekoa" (1 Ch 2:24). Ashhur is identified at once with Tekoa — not only born, but bearing the place-name as paternity-marker.
Father of Tekoa
The second notice expands the family: "And Ashhur the father of Tekoa had two wives, Helah and Naarah" (1 Ch 4:5). The list of his offspring follows by mother: "And Naarah bore him Ahuzzam, and Hepher, and Temeni, and Haahashtari. These were the sons of Naarah. And the sons of Helah were Zereth, Izhar, and Ethnan" (1 Ch 4:6-7).
The two passages together give what is recorded: Ashhur is the posthumous son of Hezron by Abijah, and through Helah and Naarah he is the named ancestor of Tekoa's people.
