Attai
The name Attai attaches to three different men in the UPDV: a descendant of Sheshan in the Judahite genealogy of 1 Chronicles 2, one of the warriors numbered in the list of 1 Chronicles 12, and a son born to Rehoboam by Maacah in 2 Chronicles 11. Each appearance is brief, and the texts treat them as distinct figures rather than as a single career.
Attai in the line of Sheshan
The Judahite genealogy traces an Attai whose ancestry runs through a marriage that crosses status lines. "And Sheshan gave his daughter to Jarha his slave as wife; and she bore him Attai. And Attai begot Nathan, and Nathan begot Zabad," (1Ch 2:35-36). Attai stands as the son of Sheshan's daughter through Jarha, and the genealogy then carries the line forward through Nathan and Zabad — a placement that links him both backward to Sheshan's house and forward into the chronicler's longer Judahite roster.
Attai among the warriors of 1 Chronicles 12
Within the ranked list of Gadite warriors, Attai appears at the sixth position: "Attai the sixth, Eliel the seventh," (1Ch 12:11). The verse itself supplies the rank and the adjacent names without further detail, presenting Attai as one of an ordered company rather than as the subject of a narrative episode.
Attai son of Rehoboam
The chronicler's record of Rehoboam's household names a third Attai. "And after her he took Maacah the daughter of Absalom; and she bore him Abijah, and Attai, and Ziza, and Shelomith," (2Ch 11:20). Here Attai is the son of Rehoboam by Maacah daughter of Absalom, listed alongside Abijah, Ziza, and Shelomith. As with the earlier two, the text gives the name and the relation but does not expand on his life.
