Azaniah

Azaniah is known solely as the father of Jeshua, a Levite leader named among those who sealed the national covenant renewal under Nehemiah.

Father of a Levite Covenant-Signer

When the people of Judah formally committed themselves to the Torah following Ezra's reading and Nehemiah's governorship, the Levites were listed among the community leaders who set their seal to the written covenant. Azaniah's son Jeshua heads the Levitical signatories: "And the Levites: namely, Jeshua the son of Azaniah, Binnui of the sons of Henadad, Kadmiel" (Ne 10:9). Azaniah himself does not appear elsewhere in the record; his place in the text is entirely as the father who gave Jeshua his lineage and standing in the Levitical community.
