Azaziah
Three men in the records of David's and Hezekiah's reigns bear the name Azaziah — a temple harper, the father of an Ephraimite tribal head, and an overseer of contributions in the Jerusalem temple. The name surfaces only in Chronicles, and each occurrence sits inside a list rather than a narrative, with no overlap among the three.
A Harper in David's Procession
The first Azaziah is listed among the musicians appointed when the ark is brought up to Jerusalem, scoring the procession on harps: "and Mattithiah, and Eliphelehu, and Mikneiah, and Obed-edom, and Jeiel, and Azaziah, with harps set to the Sheminith, to lead" (1Ch 15:21). He is one of the harp-players assigned to lead in this register.
Father of an Ephraimite Tribal Head
A second Azaziah appears as the father of Hoshea, the man set over the tribe of Ephraim in David's tribal-officer roster: "of the sons of Ephraim, Hoshea the son of Azaziah: of the half-tribe of Manasseh, Joel the son of Pedaiah:" (1Ch 27:20). The name surfaces only as a patronymic for Hoshea here.
Overseer Under Hezekiah
The third Azaziah serves under Hezekiah's reform, listed among the overseers of the temple contributions and tithes: "And Jehiel, and Azaziah, and Nahath, and Asahel, and Jerimoth, and Jozabad, and Eliel, and Ismachiah, and Mahath, and Benaiah, were overseers under the hand of Conaniah and Shimei his brother, by the appointment of Hezekiah the king, and Azariah the leader of the house of God" (2Ch 31:13). He works under Conaniah and Shimei, by Hezekiah's appointment and under Azariah, leader of the house of God.
