People · Updated 2026-05-07

Aziza is one of the sons of Zattu named in Ezra's register of those who had taken foreign wives during the exile period and were called to account in the post-return community.

A Son of Zattu in Ezra's Assembly

Following the return from Babylon, Ezra convened an assembly to address the problem of intermarriage with foreign women. The inquiry proceeded clan by clan, and the sons of Zattu yielded six names: "And of the sons of Zattu: Elioenai, Eliashib, Mattaniah, and Jeremoth, and Zabad, and Aziza" (Ezr 10:27). Aziza appears last in the list. The record preserves his name as part of the communal accounting without any narrative about his individual response or circumstances.
