Aznoth-tabor

Places · Updated 2026-05-07

Aznoth-tabor is a town on the western border of the tribal territory of Naphtali, named in Joshua's description of the land division.

A Boundary Marker in Naphtali's Allotment

When Joshua distributed the land among the tribes, the allotment of Naphtali was defined by a series of border points. Aznoth-tabor marks the place where the boundary turned westward before continuing to Hukkok: "and the border turned westward to Aznoth-tabor, and went out from there to Hukkok; and it reached to Zebulun on the south, and reached to Asher on the west, and to Jehuda at the Jordan toward the sunrising" (Jos 19:34). The verse situates Aznoth-tabor at the junction where Naphtali's territory met Zebulun to the south and moved toward Asher to the west, with the Jordan marking the eastern edge of the inheritance. The name itself likely preserves a connection to nearby Mount Tabor, the dominant highland landmark of the region.
