Baal-Hazor

Baal-hazor is a place associated with Absalom's sheep-shearing operations, located beside Ephraim. It is the site where Absalom gathered the king's sons, the occasion that set the stage for his assassination of his brother Amnon (2Sa 13:23).

The Setting of Amnon's Death

Two years after Amnon's assault on Tamar, Absalom organized a sheep-shearing at Baal-hazor. The account notes that "Absalom had sheep-shearers in Baal-hazor, which is beside Ephraim: and Absalom invited all the king's sons" (2Sa 13:23). The festive occasion served as cover for the revenge Absalom had been planning since the crime against his sister.
