Baana
Two men bear the name Baana. One is a regional officer in Solomon's administrative system; the other appears only as the father of Zadok, one of the post-exilic wall-builders.
Solomon's Officer over Taanach and Megiddo
In the list of Solomon's twelve provincial governors, Baana is named with the territory under his charge: "Baana the son of Ahilud, in Taanach and Megiddo, and all Beth-shean which is beside Zarethan, beneath Jezreel, from Beth-shean to Abel-meholah, as far as beyond Jokmeam;" (1 Ki 4:12). His district is one of the largest and richest in the list — the Jezreel valley with its key fortified cities and the descent toward the Jordan.
Father of Zadok the Wall-Builder
The other Baana appears only as a father in Nehemiah's wall-repair register: "And next to them repaired Meremoth the son of Uriah, the son of Hakkoz. And next to them repaired Meshullam the son of Berechiah, the son of Meshezabel. And next to them repaired Zadok the son of Baana" (Neh 3:4). The Baana of this notice is not given a section to repair himself — he is identified only through his son Zadok, who works on the wall alongside Meremoth and Meshullam.
