Barber
The barber's razor appears in scripture as an instrument of prophetic sign-act, where the shaving of the head and beard becomes a enacted message of judgment.
The Razor as Prophetic Instrument
Ezekiel is commanded to use a sharp sword in the manner of a barber's razor: "And you, Son of Man, take yourself a sharp sword; [as] a barber's razor you will take it to yourself, and will cause it to pass on your head and on your beard: then take yourself balances to weigh, and divide the hair" (Eze 5:1). The substitution of a sword for a razor already signals that what follows is no ordinary grooming but a judgment scene. The careful weighing and dividing of the hair is the beginning of a sign-act in which the portions of hair represent the fates of Jerusalem's population under siege.
