Bariah

Bariah is a descendant of David named in the post-exilic genealogy of the royal line, listed among the sons of Shemaiah.

The Davidic Genealogy

In the Chronicle's record of David's descendants, Bariah appears among the sons born to Shemaiah: "And the sons of Shecaniah: Shemaiah. And the sons of Shemaiah: Hattush, and Igal, and Bariah, and Neariah, and Shaphat, six" (1Chr 3:22). He is one of six sons of Shemaiah, himself son of Shecaniah, placing Bariah in the branch of the Davidic line that continued through the exile. No further information about Bariah's life or role is recorded.
