Beeliada

People · Updated 2026-05-06

Beeliada — written Baaliada in the UPDV at 1 Chronicles 14:7 — is one of David's sons born in Jerusalem. The same person stands in two parallel lists under the shorter name Eliada. The two forms differ in their first element: Baal- in one place, Eli- in the other.

In the Chronicler's Jerusalem list

The fuller form occurs in the genealogy of David's sons born after his move to Jerusalem:

"and Elishama, and Baaliada, and Eliphelet." (1Ch 14:7).

A note in this verse identifies it as the likely original form of the name carried in the parallel lists.

As Eliada in the parallel lists

The Samuel notice gives the same trio with the shorter form:

"and Elishama, and Eliada, and Eliphelet." (2Sa 5:16).

The Chronicler's earlier list of David's sons follows suit:

"and Elishama, and Eliada, and Eliphelet, nine." (1Ch 3:8).

The pairing with Elishama and Eliphelet is constant across all three notices, fixing the same person behind both names.
