Ben-geber (R. V.)
Ben-geber is one of Solomon's twelve officers stationed over the kingdom's regions to provision the royal household. UPDV preserves the form "Ben-geber" — the same reading as the Revised Version — at his single appearance.
Officer over Ramoth-gilead
In the list of Solomon's regional administrators, Ben-geber's territory is the trans-Jordan: "Ben-geber, in Ramoth-gilead (to him [pertained] the towns of Jair the son of Manasseh, which are in Gilead; [even] to him [pertained] the region of Argob, which is in Bashan, threescore great cities with walls and bronze bars);" (1Ki 4:13). The bracketed verb "pertained" makes the assignment explicit: the towns of Jair in Gilead and the fortified Argob district in Bashan, sixty walled cities in all, fall under his charge.
