Beth-barah

Beth-barah marks the river crossing where Gideon's call cut off the Midianite retreat.

East of the Jordan

When the rout of Midian began, Gideon summoned Ephraim to seize the fords as far as Beth-barah and the Jordan itself, sealing the escape route: "And Gideon sent messengers throughout all the hill-country of Ephraim, saying, Come down against Midian, and take the waters before them, as far as Beth-barah, even the Jordan. So all the men of Ephraim were gathered together, and took the waters as far as Beth-barah, even the Jordan" (Judg 7:24).
