Beth-diblathaim

Places · Updated 2026-05-06

Beth-diblathaim is a town in Moab caught up in Jeremiah's oracle of judgment, with a parallel form Almon-diblathaim showing up in the wilderness itinerary as one of Israel's encampments on the way to the plains of Moab.

In the Oracle Against Moab

The judgment list against Moab in Jeremiah names Beth-diblathaim alongside Dibon and Nebo: "and on Dibon, and on Nebo, and on Beth-diblathaim," (Jer 48:22). The town is grouped with the well-known Moabite plateau sites that the oracle sweeps under a single sentence of doom.

Almon-diblathaim in the Wilderness Itinerary

The travel record in Numbers preserves an earlier reference under a related form: "And they journeyed from Dibon-gad, and encamped in Almon-diblathaim" (Nu 33:46). The shared "diblathaim" element and the placement near Dibon link this encampment to the later Moabite town of Jeremiah's oracle.
