Beth-Marcaboth
Beth-marcaboth is a town in the territory allotted to the tribe of Simeon in the south of Judah.
A Simeonite Town
In Joshua's apportionment, Beth-marcaboth appears in the cluster of southern towns assigned to Simeon: "and Ziklag, and Beth-marcaboth, and Hazar-susah," (Josh 19:5). The same town is listed again among the cities held by Simeon down to the reign of David: "and at Beth-marcaboth, and Hazar-susim, and at Beth-biri, and at Shaaraim. These were their cities to the reign of David" (1Ch 4:31).
Possibly Identified With Madmannah
The parallel southern-Judah town list in Joshua 15 includes a site named Madmannah at the position Beth-marcaboth occupies in the Simeonite list: "and Ziklag, and Madmannah, and Sansannah," (Josh 15:31). The two names stand in the same slot of two parallel registers, suggesting that the place known as Madmannah in the Judahite list is the same town later called Beth-marcaboth among the towns of Simeon.
