Bidkar

People · Updated 2026-05-07

Bidkar is the captain Jehu addresses immediately after killing Joram of Israel, instructed to dispose of the king's body in Naboth's field as the prophetic word against Ahab's house comes due.

Jehu's Captain at Naboth's Field

After the arrow strikes Joram between his arms, Jehu turns to his officer with both an order and a recollection: "Then [Jehu] said to Bidkar his captain, Take up, and cast him in the portion of the field of Naboth the Jezreelite; for remember how that, when I and you rode together after Ahab his father, Yahweh laid this burden on him:" (2 Kings 9:25). Bidkar is named as the one who once rode with Jehu in the train of Ahab and who now hears the burden recalled at the moment of its fulfillment.
