Bukkiah
Bukkiah is a Levite musician, one of the sons of Heman, set apart with his brothers for the music of the temple under David's organization. He appears only in the Chronicler's roster of singers and in the lot-cast that follows it.
Among the Sons of Heman
When the Heman branch of the singers is enumerated, Bukkiah stands at the head of the list: "Of Heman; the sons of Heman: Bukkiah, Mattaniah, Uzziel, Shebuel, and Jerimoth, Hananiah, Hanani, Eliathah, Giddalti, and Romamti-ezer, Joshbekashah, Mallothi, Hothir, Mahazioth" (1Ch 25:4). The list places him among the trained Levites who, alongside Asaph and Jeduthun, are appointed to prophesy with lyres, harps, and cymbals.
The Sixth Course
When the courses are then assigned by lot, Bukkiah's division falls sixth in the rotation: "the sixth to Bukkiah, his sons and his brothers, twelve" (1Ch 25:13). The twelve under him match the standard quota for each course, fixing his position in the cycle of musical service.
