Caleb-Ephratah

The compound name Caleb-Ephratah is associated with a place near Bethlehem in older topical indexes. UPDV's text at the relevant verse renders the name differently.

The UPDV Reading

The single passage where the name has been located reads, in UPDV: "And after Hezron died, Caleb went to Ephrathah. And Hezron's wife was Abijah. And she bore him Ashhur the father of Tekoa" (1Ch 2:24). UPDV gives the line as a narrative — Caleb's movement to Ephrathah after his father's death — rather than as a single place name "Caleb-Ephratah." Ephrathah is the location named, and Caleb is the person who goes there.
