Candle

"Candle" is the older English rendering used in some translations for what scripture properly describes as an oil lamp — the small vessel of burning oil that lit homes, tabernacle, and temple, and supplied countless figurative images of guidance, witness, and life. Modern revisions and most commentators read "lamp" throughout, in keeping with the actual ancient lighting device.
