Chelub

People · Updated 2026-05-06

Two men named Chelub appear in 1 Chronicles, both in genealogical or administrative lists, and both with their relationships specified by the verse that names them.

Chelub the brother of Shuhah

The first Chelub is given a single line in the genealogies of Judah: "And Chelub the brother of Shuhah begot Mehir, who was the father of Eshton" (1 Chronicles 4:11). The verse fixes him by his brother's name and by the son and grandson he produced.

Chelub the father of Ezri

The second Chelub is named only as the father of one of David's officers: "And over those who did the work of the field for tillage of the ground was Ezri the son of Chelub" (1 Chronicles 27:26). His son Ezri held the post of overseer for the agricultural work of the kingdom; the Chelub of this verse is otherwise unidentified.
