Chesulloth

Places · Updated 2026-05-06

Chesulloth is a city in the territory of Issachar, lying along the Issachar–Zebulun border at the foot of the mountain. It appears in the Issachar town-list and, under the name Chisloth-tabor, on the Zebulun border-line; the Chronicler's allotment-list names the related city Tabor among the Levitical cities of Zebulun.

In the Issachar list

Chesulloth is listed in the border-towns of Issachar between Jezreel and Shunem: "And their border was to Jezreel, and Chesulloth, and Shunem," (Jos 19:18).

As Chisloth-tabor on the Zebulun border

The Zebulun border-line names the same locality as Chisloth-tabor and uses it as a turning-point: "and it turned from Sarid eastward toward the sunrising to the border of Chisloth-tabor; and it went out to Daberath, and went up to Japhia;" (Jos 19:12).

Tabor among the Levitical cities

In the Chronicler's list of Levitical cities given out of Zebulun, Tabor itself is named among the cities assigned to the sons of Merari: "To the rest of [the Levites], the sons of Merari, [were given], out of the tribe of Zebulun, Rimmonah with its suburbs, Tabor with its suburbs;" (1Ch 6:77). The named place stands in the same Issachar–Zebulun district that Chesulloth and Chisloth-tabor mark out.
