Chezib
Chezib is a town named as the birthplace of Judah's son Shelah; the same locality is gathered under two related forms — Cozeba and Achzib — in later town-lists.
Birthplace of Shelah
The town is first named in connection with Judah's third son: "And she yet again bore a son, and named him Shelah: and he was at Chezib, when she bore him." (Gen 38:5).
As Cozeba in Chronicles
A genealogical note in the Chronicler's list of the sons of Judah names men of Cozeba — the same locality under a related form: "and Jokim, and the men of Cozeba, and Joash, and Saraph, who had dominion in Moab. And they returned to Lehem. And the records are ancient." (1Ch 4:22).
As Achzib in the Judahite town-list
In the lowland-list of Judah, the town appears under the form Achzib, set among Keilah and Mareshah: "and Keilah, and Achzib, and Mareshah; nine cities with their villages." (Jos 15:44).
