Chisloth-Tabor

Places · Updated 2026-05-06

Chisloth-tabor is a border-point on the territory of Zebulun, used in the boundary description as a turning-point along the line. The same locality is gathered under two related forms — Chesulloth in the Issachar town-list, and Tabor in the Chronicler's roster of Levitical cities of Zebulun.

On the Zebulun border

The Zebulun boundary runs eastward and pivots at Chisloth-tabor: "and it turned from Sarid eastward toward the sunrising to the border of Chisloth-tabor; and it went out to Daberath, and went up to Japhia;" (Jos 19:12).

As Chesulloth in the Issachar list

In the Issachar town-list the same place appears between Jezreel and Shunem under the form Chesulloth: "And their border was to Jezreel, and Chesulloth, and Shunem," (Jos 19:18).

As Tabor among the Levitical cities

The Chronicler names Tabor among the cities given to the Merarite Levites out of Zebulun: "To the rest of [the Levites], the sons of Merari, [were given], out of the tribe of Zebulun, Rimmonah with its suburbs, Tabor with its suburbs;" (1Ch 6:77).
