The category of "consecrated things" gathers what Israel was required to set apart to God off the top of the produce of land, herd, and family — the firstborn of man and beast reserved to him, and the first ripe of grain, oil, wine, and fleece brought as an offering. The principle in both is the same: the first and best belongs to the LORD before the rest is enjoyed.
