Cupidity

Cupidity is the older English word for inordinate desire — the grasping appetite that scripture warns against under the names of avarice, covetousness, and lust. The biblical material spans greed for wealth, the hoarding instinct of the rich, and the unrestrained craving of the flesh, treating all three as a single root disorder of the heart turned away from God toward what it should not have.
